一、在短期内，重要的是要把熟悉的已知词汇掌握好。有的白领觉得自己的英语不够好，对于自己掌握的词汇量还不满足，冲进书店就把词汇书买回家猛背单词。其实，这样的方法很不可取。中国学生大学毕业后已经积累了一定量的单词，但是大部分学生却总是满脑子单词，真到开口说的时候，一句句子都说不完整。据统计，外国(特指说英语的国家)人每天日常使用的词汇量约在800-1000个之间。因此，只要我们把握好平时最常用的词汇，日常交流就能得心应手。
二、要学会在句子中掌握词汇。可以尝试着把词汇放在特定的句子中记忆，并且反复练习。
三、背诵实用的短文。俗话说得好：“熟读唐诗三百首，不会吟诗也会吟”。背诵是练习英语口语的前提。把一些非常实用、适合自己层次的句型背诵下来，熟练之后就可以加以应用并脱口而出。例如，你可以选择一篇关于如何陪同客人吃饭对话形式的短文，并背诵下来。以后在工作中遇到类似的情况，你就学会了该如何打电话、安排时间、联络客户等等。又比如，给上级作年度评估报告的时候，你可以事先背诵一篇相关的短文，在实际工作中，只需要把一些数字变通一下即可。
